Laser treatment for unwanted hair is a non-invasive, FDA approved method for achieving permanent hair reduction on the face and body. With laser hair removal, patients can be virtually hair-free in just a few months’ time. Many of our patients opt to complement the results of their gender transition surgeries with laser hair removal. Because this treatment affects hair follicles during the growing stage, about 6-8 treatments spaced one month apart are required to see full results. Laser hair removal can be performed on any part of the body and there is no downtime. The treatment does create a mild stinging sensation but it is well-tolerated by most patients and leaves the skin soft and smooth.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Other methods of hair removal such as shaving, waxing, and tweezing are time-consuming and painful, as well as potentially irritating to the skin. In contrast, laser therapy offers a painless and permanent method of removing hair anywhere on the body using the same laser technology that is often used to rejuvenate the skin. While laser hair removal will diminish hair growth and result in finer hair, it can not reduce the hair density (number of hair follicles). Because hair density is related to the effect of male hormones, hormone therapy should be used in conjunction with laser hair removal to achieve ideal results.
The Procedure
Laser therapy is a perfect solution for reducing hair anywhere on the body, including sensitive areas like the bikini line, underarms, and face. The treatment is ideal for transgender patients and offers a way to achieve smooth, feminine skin without plucking or waxing. The laser device works by emitting a spectrum of light and heat directly into the hair follicle. This breaks down the hair cells, slowing growth. In time, the hair grows weaker and more slowly, and eventually it stops growing completely. While around 6-8 treatments are required for most areas, parts of the body with thicker hair growth may require more treatments. Additionally, because the laser targets darker tissue, the hair in the treatment area should also be dark rather than blonde.

“I was shown the utmost respect by every single person starting with Angela who guided the paperwork and credit card process over the phone to the receptionist, nurses, on-call nurses, and of course Dr. Raphael. This was the first time I have ever had surgery and I am beyond happy with the total experience.”
Dr.Transman
“This staff and surgeon were top notch. They treated me in such a friendly manner and really took the time to access my individual needs. I left there feeling like I was a part of their family and can not see myself going anywhere else for this procedure.”
